Surf in Portugal

Portuguese António Silva taking things to an all new level of commitment.He was the protagonist of some of the heaviest episodes of tow-surf this winter in Portugal.Between the tow sessions in Papoa and Nazaré and this mutant in the picture...,a new attitude is growing and beginning to take hold in the mainstream of Portuguese surfing mentality.The recognition to the athlete and for his Country coupled with the doors opened by Tiago Pires to Frederico Morais on the world tour,he wins to Slater here at Peniche and grabs a 4ª place in the vans triple crown at Sunset this year,are the shortest path to a world title coming to Portugal through Kikas or through the following generation,and there are some great kids surfing and being oriented by strong sponsors.The world tour it´s a big game with big money involved and,of course, big politics,no one will take a world title home without coming first the recognition of the motherland as a Surfing power,in all aspects.Ask to our Brazilian friends how the A.S.P. game is played or just observe the nationality of all the World Champs.and you will notice that there´s no name out of the tríade Califórnia,hawaii,Austrália.The game is played between Austrália and United States of América,that hawaii is a state,the motherlands of the big companies,and all the Goald Coast and Califórnia are the bases of all surf industry. Is where the money is and from where big decisions are fabricated and coming out,like when everybody already knew that Occy and Sunny would be champions before the tour start.They will not allow anyone to steal them the show,they only will allow co-adjuvants which enhance their spectacle and profits,of course.There is only one path,claim self-affirmation as an surf potency with roots,tradition,great waves and surfers,decentralization and stop the internal political games acting as an integrated country with a goal,and play well the economical game,as companies and with the A.S.P.
It´s now the time for big persons with big minds start doing big things,as António Silva seems to show us.
